Either will do, depending on what you're doing. Truck drums are heavier,
wider and deeper than those of cars, and of course there are the
variations between models. The one drawback mine has is that it's too
deep, but since I intend to put fireclay in it for insulation, as well
as to make it more shallow, that's not really a problem. As is, it's
fine for short stuff, but some of my planned projects include fairly
long lengths of bar stock, and it's a bit tough to bring the center of a
long bar up to heat, when the center of the fire is 2 or three inches
below the rim ;-)
Suspect that if I make another, I'll use a truck drum, and just cut it
off and maybe weld a lip on ;-)
