There's going to be an impromptu get-together (aka hammer-in) here in Green
Bay this weekend. So far there's going to be about a dozen or so people
gathering for a basic "open forge" and show-n-tell. There are no planned
demonstrations and it will all be played by ear, so to speak.
Jim Enloe has a HF compact bender that has a bar welded to it so that it
can be clamped in a vise. I asked him to bring it along so we can
experiment with it and so those who aren't familiar with Hossfeld or
Hossfeld style benders can get an idea of what they are and what/how they
are used. Since I've got all those bracket to make for my son's shop
remodeling ... well, I'll bring a bunch of stock to make brackets with. I
guess we'll just play with it some to see what else we can do with it for
the day.
There will be one coal forge and two propane forges (one pipe style
w/forced air burners, and one Sandia recuperative style) and four
anvils. Not a lot of people can be working at once, so the rest of us will
have to stand around and talk smart. Actually, there will be 2 or 3
newbies there, so we can do a little teaching of basics.
Most of us are UMBA members, a couple are not. Who cares? We don't, we
just want to heat up some steel and whack it with hammers.
Any one on this list who might be interested in coming over can contact me
and I'll send directions.
