Dog gone that is a big crappie!!!! I want to see that picture!!
It isn't the wetting of the film that hurts it. After all, it gets wet when
it is developed. It is any dirt or salt in the water that can do the
damage. Or.. trying to unroll it after it dries and sticks together. Take
the film to someone who can hand process the roll. they will most likely
dunk the film, canister and all, in a water rinse bath until it is well
soaked. Then it can be unrolled and developed in the normal fashion. If
the first outfit tried to unroll it and the film emulsion was stuck there
may be some damage.
In my work we have had several cases where our film got a saltwater soak.
We "usually" have been able to recover the film even after soaking on the
bottom of the ocean for several days. The main thing is once wet, don't let
it dry until it has been processed. Salt crystals will definitely cause
havoc. Clean rain water shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Good luck,
Jeff
