I never!! Not once in my life have I tried to defend law with
logic!
LOL I am aware that the law was never changed and I'm sure there
are many working and non-working units with latch type doors left.
However I'm willing to bet the laws on the latches helped the industry
move away from latches to magnetic strips. Even if it was only as a
"selling point" at first, it's industry standard now.
I suppose the law was written with no provision for the latch,
probably just mandates the removal of the door when it is a "junk
refrigerator". As someone else pointed out, if you have it plugged in
and are using it, it's not junk.
