[TheForge] unique anvil

I am considering buying a 250 lb. anvil. I did not see any markings other
than what apears to be a "P'' below the horn on the bottom of the base on
the left and an "R" on the base on the right. It is a London Pattern with
decent edge and face(one significant ding on edge).The unique thing is that
there is a hole going crosswise thru the anvil at the mid point . The hole
is about 1 to 1.5 inch in diameter.
It appears to have been made this way. Can someone tell me more about this
thing.It is far enough below the face to not weaken it.  The price is $1.50
lb.
