 references to how the world came to our aid in the late 1700's. They
 mostly stood back and watched. Yeah France did provide a little help
 late in the war, but it was mostly to piss off the English, and not
 because they truly believed in our attempt for freedom. >>

France helped.  So did Spain.  These were the other major players on the 
world scene in the late 1700s.  As for France not believing in our cause -- 
rathr imagine that dpends on which Frenchman you're dealing with...but over 
all you're right.   Its readily forgotten that England and France were 
already fighting a war worldwide...that britain would eventually win.  And 
without that "distraction", real big question whether this country would have 
won independance at Yorktown or not.
