Ask the Sioux about the Chipewa celebration each year (to this day) on
Red Lake Reservation in Minnesota.
The Chipewa tribe marks the occasion when in 1609 they defeated the last
Sioux and drove them west, out of Minnesota's forests and onto the
plains.
This was the culmination of the Chipewa migration south out of what is
now Canada. The battle of Cut-foot-Sioux was the culmination another
territorial seizure through the violent displacement of the previous
inhabitants of the land by early immigrants (aka "native Americans").
