I do general smithing, up to 1" sq., no power hammer, 70 pound farrier's anvil. << I am not sure about general smithing, but for bladesmithing, a big anvil is often in the way, particularly when attempting to forge in the blade bevels. Also, in a one man shop with a power hammer and/or hydraulic press, the anvil is used for finesse work, not major metal moving. >>
