I just used leather. I ended up with two layers. The trick is that you
don't have a lot of room; too thick and you can't disengage the clutch.
I ended up using a belt sander to thin mine. Not a fun thing to do (and
have it come out even). But it is doable.
Knowing Sid, the pieces he sells are probably already fit to the hammer,
which can save some work.
