Yep, I'm making my own rings. If you have Decorative and Sculptural Ironwork
by Dona Meilach (2nd edition), on page 230 you'll see one by Jim Wallace
that's the inspiration behind these. Sterling silver and pattern
welded/Damascus. Have the Damascus done, 18 layers of wrought iron and L6
(by hand...no power hammer yet). Main band of Damascus will be lined with a
band of sterling, to prevent the salts and oils that the body produces from
causing too much havoc. The central band will be "framed" by 2 smaller bands
of sterling.
Pictures? Probably...if I can figure out how to put things online. Might
end up doing a book on the ironwork I'm doing for the wedding -- its a
largely "do it yourself" wedding, and a lot of iron. Then again, might not.
Oh, interesting trivia...its traditional for Italian grooms to carry a bit of
iron in their pocket during the wedding. Yes, I am. And my bride, in
addition to the six pence in her shoe, will have a small horseshoe tied to
her bouquet (Irish tradition).
