[TheForge] Demo's

I agree with all the replies to this. I have found that small animal
heads also go over well. Dragons, Bulls and ram heads are fun. Have some
stock pre cut for the crucial elements and ready to work into the head. As
mentioned leaves and nails, drive hooks and S hooks are good. A twist in a
piece of metal always catches the attention. Iron crosses are another.
Practice small ones (1/4") that you cut with a hack saw or on a band saw
prior to the demo. You can give them away or sell them as you make them.
Either way they can be done quick and make an interesting demo.
It is always more important to have something to say about what you are
doing than the actual doing of the task. People that don't know or
understand the principal of the work will stay to listen if it is
explained. If they have to figure out what you are doing, it is to much
work and they will wander on. Speak about the fuel, the fire and the iron.
Explain what that black stuff (scale) that is lying around and on top of the
anvil is. Anything to keep them interested between heats. I often discuss
the difference in using a bellows as to blowers and such as this. Good
luck, and have fun. If you are not having fun, why should they?
