A neat thing to make and useful too, is a screwdriver. Beforehand,
straighten out some 1/4" spring stock and cut into lengths of 4 or 5".
First forge the blade, and then back along the shaft about 2 inches, bend
one way and then back in to a nice shape handle with a little flare on the
end that touches the shaft. Bring the blade up to non magnetic, quench, rub
with a file and take some temper out.
This can be done in a few short minutes and shows quite a lot when you think
about it, then you can give it away to whoever, as a useful little tool that
will last forever and always remind them of the neat smith who made it
before their eyes.

I would like to ask a question about doing demonstrations for the
general public. For those of you who have done this, what do you find to
be the best things to make to give people an idea of what we do. I was
at a event yesterday and found myself at a loss as to what to do, that
could be done quickly, and even given to some of the kids in the
audience as a reminder of their experience. I noticed that people don't
stay very long, so I'm trying to think of something that would be quick,
and not to involved, something besides a hook please. I'm not too much
of an original thinker, but I can take an idea and run with it.
Thanks in advance
John C.
