Greetings One and All,
There were 23 smiths involved in making 42 items for this project. There are
roughly 65 items not made yet. Currently, the project is being stored in my
bedroom except for the steelyard, which Ken Zastrow took back so he could
finish it. Ralph Douglass your section of chain didn't get here before I
left, so I picked it up at the post office today.
I spoke with Jim Wallace from the National Ornamental Metal Museum about the
collection.
He was very much interested in it. He also thought it would be a good
candidate for the traveling trunk exhibit, like the one they did back a
while back with the 17th century lockworks.
If we donate the collection to the museum, I need you to e-mail me this
statement:
I, (your name), donate free and clear my project item(s) to the National
Onamental Metal Museum for educational purposes.
I will print each e-mail I get to give Jim a hard copy. I would prefer to
get this out of my bedroom as quickly as possible and be put somewhere on
display.
All of you involved, pat yourselves on the back. It went over real well at
the conference. The 1st evening the gallery was open, I stopped by to see
how it was going and I ended up talking to people for 2 hours about it. I
bragged alot about all of you. I put in an extra "Oh, Wow" for Bill Clemens
and the fire-grid he did in a week. Any of you that come to Wichita, I'll
buy you a beer. :-)
Norm Larson brought 50 copies of the Mastermyr book to the conference and I
think he sold about 40 of them after people had a chance to see our project.
Your efforts have inspired others.
Anyone interested in Mastermyr part II? Finishing up the rest of the items?
Steve, how about making another chest you can permanently donate? :-)
With much thanks and appreciation,
Rob Fertner
