Funny, unless you get into clothing, most of the Laurels I know are more
concerned with getting the work done, than the bells and whistles you use to
accomplish it- unless, of course, the object is to learn how to use the
bells and whistles ;-)
This symposium is designed specificly to help teach folks how to do period
techniques, which is why I'll be using charcoal, but since I'm not up to it
yet (just wait!) I'll be doing it in a modern brake drum forge, with a
hand-cranked squirrel cage blower. I may also have a propane forge
available, and we might even be using an arc rig, if I can pull together the
materials for a forge-making class. Personally, I feel that it's mre
important to get folks doing and loving the art, than it is to use
absolutely period stuff, at least at this level.
As far as Period Police, they can feel free to police my hammer- I have no
use for that sort at all. For one thing, they usually haven't much of a clue
at all. I get very tired of being told that I'm cross-dressing, when in my
culture, both men and women wore trews for working, and robes for fancy.
Since I'm usually working, what do I wear most of the time?
;-)
