US freight sucks. I bought 3 feet of 5/8" Acme threaded rod for a
lathe crossslide replacement from Mcmaster-Carr in the US. IIRC the
postage was ~$US30 - for a well wrapped cardboard mailing tube over 3'
long. There wa aroudn $5 between snail mail and air freight, which
surprised me. For an unloader valve the size of your thumb, they could
post it for less than 10 US. Have you speified low cost freight -
otherwise they use Fedex and it costs.
