Forged Furniture
Craig has spent over 30 years sculpting and forging hot metal. He started=20
by apprenticing to sculptor Phil Darling in Port Washington, NY while in=20
high school. In his studio he helped make sculpture in stone, wood and=20
fiberglass. Afterwards Craig attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts=
=20
in Boston, receiving a BFA from Tufts University. While attending Art=20
school he found an interest in forging iron metal and took a job as a=20
blacksmith at Hancock Shaker Village in 1976. Most of the skills he learned=
=20
forging metal came from attending conferences and workshops sponsored by=20
ABANA and it affiliates.

Friday Night Blast
Make plans to attend the forging contest that is as funny as it is intense.=
=20
This years contest, courtesy of our President Allan Kress, is to punch a=20
5/16th hole through a piece of 3/8th stock, 6 inches from the end. Then you=
=20
must taper the other end and feed it back through the hole. The contestant=
=20
with the most taper sticking through the hole wins.
You have 15 minutes=85. GO!
The Auction
Your donated items for the auction are very much appreciated. The auction=20
proceeds are where the AFC generates its income to offer blacksmithing=20
scholarships and to host the free workshops each year. The conference fees=
=20
pay for putting on the conference but the auction is how we continue to=20
provide the activities that further the art and craft of blacksmithing. Our=
=20
auctioneer this year is Col. Anthony Goodrum. Remember, this is a charity=20
auction, bid generously.
If you cannot attend we welcome your donations. Please send them to:
