You can tig weld quite handily with a DC stick welder and a scratch start
torch. We were doing it today, welding the nuts on stainless steel anchor
bolts of some benches we were installing- gas drive miller welder, set on
dc, argon gas and a 100 scratch start tig torch. works great on steel,
stainless, and tig brazing with silicon bronze rod. We use the same torch in
the shop with a dc power supply when we need to run two tig torches at once.
It will not work with AC, however. A competent tig welder can adjust to
scratch start quickly, a competent stick welder likewise. after all, all
stick welding is scratch start.
