I thought throwing coal (actually I prefer more volatile substances) on the
fire was what this forum was all about.
I actually stay awake at night scheming up ways to poke the hive of
crochtety old blacksmiths with a stick and make em buzz around.
Regards rolling machines to texture bar stock- The germans make several, and
are trying to sell them in the US right now. Glaser and Hebo, two companies
that supply european blacksmiths with forges, power hammers, power twisting
machines, and hand and power scrollers, both make rolling machines to
texture round, square and tubing cold. They make a wide variety of roll
patterns, and will of course custom make any pattern you want. They are
pricy- about 8-10 grand, or part of integrated systems that cost up to 50
grand. Evidently there is enough of a market for them in europe to justify
manufacturing them. Check out their wcb sites for more details- Reverse
engineering is the way I have built a lot of my shop tools.
