It is interesting, but it's not quite as new as they say:

A similar thing is known as MetGlas (see the link above for info on it).

I asked my father about liquidmetal, and he told me about MetGlas.  He also 
said "interesting shameless corporate promotion." of something that has 
been around for a long time.
It sounds to me like a combination of new techniques/formulations advancing 
something that was already known.  Is it a breakthrough?  Probably not.  Is 
it cool? Undoubtedly!
