[TheForge] Looking for round S-1

Bob,

I bought two twelve-foot pieces of 3/4" round S-1 from Crucible Steel in
February 2002. The cost plus shipping came to about $200. The cost per
bar was $85. At that time, I was told that S-1 was not being produced
very much, special orders, etc.. S-1 is being replaced by S-7. One of
theforge members wanted a source and bought the last 5/8" round that
Crucible had on hand.

Try Burgon Tool Steel at 800-258-7106 or look on the web for the nearest
Crucible Steel service center www.crucible.com

Thanks.

1/2" round is approximately 0.668 pounds per foot * 3 feet =3D 2.004
pounds *
$3.45 =3D $6.92 + shipping
Is that math correct? (That seems reasonable, depending on the shipping,
of
course.)

If this isn't 1/2" drill rod (I'm assuming it's not), any idea of the
allowable
tolerance on 1/2" round?

Bob

Bob, the following is an e-mail from Pete Stanaitis:

Cincinnati Tool Steel Company

Rockford, Il, 61125

1-815-226-8800

They have a national Wats #: 1-800-435-0717, so they must have offices
in other places, too. The last time I bought some 1/2" round, it was
$3.45 per pound plus UPS COD shipping costs.
