[TheForge] unique anvil

I saw one once that had a round hole, and the stake going through it had, on
the far side, a hole with a wedge in it.
This wedged it tightly against the anvil.
I don't recall, though , what the shape of the "stake" was on the near side.
All I know is that when I was told it was a chainmaker's anvil, and how it
worked, it made perfect sense.
I do know that it wasn't as involved as the way one in the photos is used.
That was several years ago, and I've forgotten quite a bit more since then.

To All,
Thanks for the responses re the unique anvil.
I guess it does not matter, but the hole is round and I dont think it is a
chain makers anvil because a round stake would rotate.
Its a decent price so I will buy it.
BTW, the length wise holes on the bottom for handling are present so I dont
think this large crosswise hole has anything to do with handling during
fabrication.
