[TheForge] Mastermyr chest

I am making a replica of the Viking Mastermyr chest:

The chest and most hardware should be straightforward. The part I cannot figure
out is how the key works in the lock (the drawing I have is from a book, not
shown on the above web page). The lock mechanism has a long horizontal bar which
engages hasps from the lid. The keyhole is a large L, perhaps 4cm x 4cm. I do
not have enough detail in my drawings to figure out how one used the key (turn
or slide), or how any wards might have worked.

Anyone wishing to offer opinions will be appreciated.

The book I'm using is "The Mastermyr Find" by Arwidsson and Berg (available from
Norm Larson Books).
