Hmmm

Back when I was more involved with woodwork, many moons ago, at least one 
supplier had something called "Bar Top Finish", which might work.

Or...even better.  Coat with your favorite clear coat.  Then....put a clear 
Pyrex dish on top of it, before you set the hot pot down =)

 here is my problem I would like to put a finish on it to help it not rust
 but I've done a heat color to a great peacock blue and don't want to mess it
 up  with it being  something that hot things are put on I don't think a wax
 finish will work and I'm afraid a clear paint will burn . any Ideas?
