I have a Hawk Tradesman II  auto darkening helmet that my kids gave me for
Father's day 4 or 5 years ago.  Always before it had been a ceramic ashtray
or somesuch and I don't smoke, so I was thrilled and haven't used the old
one since.  It has occasionally stayed dark when It should have gone to the
light stage and when I asked the guys at Holox about it they said that it
takes fluorescent light to charge the battery.  I now put it inside
occasionally and haven't had that problem again.  It has never allowed the
arc through, just wouldn't go to the lighter phase when I was ready to use
it after a long spell in the box.

Is there an advantage to an on off switch for the battery?
