Throughout Colonial Williamsburg, most of the hardware has been painted to 
match what its attached to.  Philip Simmons talks about painting his work in 
colors other than black.  I've done some in green, it doesn't sell as well.

<< does anyone paint their work in colors not just shades of black? interior 
or exterior. got pictures? 
 
 i understand that hinges and door hardware used to be painted the color of
