Bob, I had the good fortune of going to England last year. Much of
the iron in the royal botanical gardens is blue with gold elements.......of
course it is Royal Blue don't cha know! The Kue Gardens and the Royal
Gardens in Edenborough Scottland were like this, as well as alot of iron
around London itself. Shakespeare's theatre gates that are shown in this
month's issue with Richard Quinnel's interview were black (and really nice).
If anyone goes to England, one of the stops I would highly recommend
would be the "Fire and Iron Gallery" that Richard's daughter runs. I've
never seen so much iron work for sale in one place - and not just volume but
quality items that were very impressive from all over the world. Of course
it goes without saying that a stop by the Victoria Albert Museum to see the
1/8 of a mile of iron work on the walls would also be a good
take...........I spent 7 hours there sketching and the wife wouldn't let me
go back for a second day. (that iron was all black and some of it from BC)
.........hardly antiques, but more like relics.
