called a forming tap. sometimes called a roll thread tap. the thread is similar to a rolled thread but not technically "rolled". tap drill size for a forming tap is the pitch diameter of the desired thread. thread size is controlled by making the hole bigger or smaller. forming taps take more power but make a very nice thread in any material.
