[TheForge] heat treating

I'm still trying to learn a little more about heat treating. There is a set of books I've learned about called the Heat Treater's Guide. One book for iron and steel, one for nonferrous metals, and one that looks like a primer for the other two. The problem is that I was stunned by the price of these books. New they run almost $250 each. I 've found the Iron and Steel book (the one I probably need) used in a Houston bookshop for $150, and one recently sold on Ebay for about $125.

I can't pay that kind of dough and still have the bread to buy iron. Surly there is a decent reference for an amature to learn the basics of heat treating that won't break the bank. Any suggestions?
