The other method of sharpening a tap is to use a surface grinder to
regrind the tip taper. You grind down the flat end a bit and then redo
the taper to the tip. This gives you fresh teeth to cut into the metal
you are tapping. However, if the taper has relief to the grooves, you
need to have a fixture that holds the tap and has an eccentric feature to
do this.
