While looking for info on sizing rods to dies for making bolts I came across
this site which is part of a book by an international rehab outfit which
teaches people who don't have access to them to make wheel chairs.  This

At he bottom of one of those sites itshows you how to make a really poor
mans locknut.  you simply thread a nut on a bolt halfway,  lay it on the
anvil and whack the half off portion of the bolt hard with a heavy hammer
which distorts the bolt slightly and makes it hard to get on or off.
