I find that sometimes the coal dictates what kind of fire you make, I find 
that the amount of fines and size of chunks make a difference. Coal with a 
lot of fines I find likes a smaller fire with just enough to coke being 
pulled into the edges at a time. I learned on larger chunks and usually 
used a large fire, dealing with the fines was a learning experience when I 
changed coal .
