The method that I have used is to either route out the shape, or to
form it with hot melt plastic (used by machinists to cover newly
sharpened tools for storage) and then cover this with the flocking
mentioned before. I do have trouble finding the flocking. I bought
mine off the web last time. I read about the hot dip approach in
either Home Shop Machinist or Projects in Metal. Basically heat up the
hot dip and pour it in the box bottom. Place your object d' art
covered in vasoline into the box as well. Wait for hot melt to set
up. Remove object, clean object and depression then spray with adhesive
(3M sells many different versions ) and dust with flocking. Gently blow
off excess flocking. Instant form fitted felt lind box.
