[TheForge] Hydraulic Press Control

We had a thread going here about building a hydraulic press. I'm getting
materials together to build it, but I also want to use electronic
controls. In the UMBA tape mentioned Keith Johnson demonstrates an
automatic control setup to repeatedly stroke the cylinder.

To set the force, I think Keith used an adjustable pressure relief
valve. He didn't detail how he controlled the repeat cycle. I would guess
that he had a flow sensor on the relief valve outlet which worked with a
solenoid valve and an adjustable timer.

I was thinking that the same could be achieved with a pressure sensor
replacing the relief valve and flow sensor.

Also, I don't know why he doesn't use an electric switch to control his
solenoid valve when in manual mode instead of the mechanical valver.

Has anyone got advice on how to do this and where to get the stuff? I have
a spring center open solenoid valve already.

Thanks,
Ed
