Sounds okay.  If the client doesn't like the looks of that, I think a
helical ramp thingie would also work.  I dunno what these are called
but you see this arrangement in old cast iron garden gate hinges
sometimes.  For the crane, it could consist of a sort of thick
washer-like piece sitting on the lower pintle and its mate fixed to
the bottom pin of the crane.  They would hardly be noticable.  Tedious
to make, though, I guess.
