The only two types of anvil stands I use any more are the laminated variety (alternating 2"X6"s and 2"X12"s held together with allthread rod) and for portable anvils, an anvil box. I wrote an article on these two methods a couple of years ago for the Hammer's Blow. BTW, I like to use pressure treated lumber for anvil stands.
