[TheForge] Dipping candlesticks in paint

Been trying to do something that Ford Motor Company did in the early days-
dip steel parts in paint which is floating on water, to get a nice even
coating. A blacksmith I know in Michigan has been doing this for years with
excellent results, but I didn't get any brand names from him.

Problem is, when I try to pour the paint on the surface of the water, it
just wants to sink!
Any suggestions?
