Ummm, Jqacques, had you considered explaining what you want to do, then
asking what size forge you need to do it? Might work a bit better- different
forges serve different purposes.

For example, the forge it looks like you'll be winding up with, once you
insulate it, being long and thin, would likely be good for swords and
knives, or long twists for posts for gates or fences or the like, but would
be rather a pain to work with if you want to make anything but the smallest
trivets. It could also be used to make nails or rivets, too, but it's not
really a general purpose forge.

Now, my preference is a small coal forge, because it's much better for spot
heating, which relates to the things I mostly do, but I rarely want or need
to do long twists. If I had a project where I wanted to do something like
that, I'd borrow a friend's forge, or build my own if I decided I wanted to
do a bunch of them, often.

I generally prefer a coal forge, but I acknowledge that there are many
advantages to a propane forge. I'm very interested in Johan's project, to
build a gas forge, which is portable, but uses gas depending on
configuration, to spot heat or large area heat. It will also, at least
superficially, look rather like a coal/charcoal forge, thus being less
jarring at reenactments.

But, you might be better off to decide what you want to do first, before you
build a random forge that may not do (very well) what you want it to.
