[TheForge] simple propane burner question

I've cleaned the burner and adjusted it again to nice blue flames that don't
soot the pot bottoms, but it remains to be seen if my sweetie will stay with
my adjustments. I plan to look for a bigger burner so that she'll get
quicker heating with nice efficient blue flames. I may look into the Ron
Reil burner as well, but will probably go with a larger commercial one if
its available locally and not too pricey.
The burner does have a feature I don't understand, Just inside the air
intake there is a bolt about 3/16 that is spring loaded from the outside and
sticks into the tube that carries the propane and air mixture to the
orifices. As far as I can tell that bolt just sticks further or less far
into the channel when you tighten it and the spring is to keep it from
changing position due to jarring. ?? any ideas? I'm guessing that it just
gets the flow tumbling or more turbulent, but my guesses are rarely on
target.
This morning I heated the oils, made the soap, and cleaned up all the pots
and implements. I'm afraid this may be the wave of the future. Those sooty
pots aren't looking so bad now.
