The From: field in spam is invariably forged, whether it's posted to a list,
or sent directly. They could make it look like it came from
[email protected] if they wanted to. Hell, if I were sending from Outlook,
I could make *this* look like it came from [email protected]. If you're
blocking based on the From: line, you're almost certainly blaming the wrong
ISPs. You need to look at the Received: lines in the header to determine the
real source, and I'm unaware of any email clients with Rules that'll do that.
I've been tracking spam to this address since 1/98 (allemanse.com/fight), and
as of this writing, Yahoo isn't even included among almost 1100 separate
legitimately responsible ISPs. But there's no question many spammers have
tried to make it look otherwise. And again, for lists, configure them as
private so spammers can't find them in the directory, and make sure your
marketing preferences are set appropriately.
