The following links are excellent sources of information on just about any
steel:
The MatWeb site may be of the most value to you. Use their search engine . .
. its outstanding! Just keep in mind that steel designations are like phone
numbers, if you transpose digits, or get even one wrong, you'll get
something other than what you are looking for. I suspect "B1065" is either
and error or a non-standard callout.

Here's another excellent source of metals information.

2Bindex
A nice guide to various steel designations can also be found at the website
of Metal Ravne, a steel producer located in Solvenia. Includes some useful
processing information.

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) is a great source for just
about anything steel related. Their website contains a lot of information,
as well as links to a great many other sources of information:

I hope this helps.

Subject: [TheForge] Decoding steel code
Could someone tell me how to decode the numbers with steel such as
B1065 or W1 O1 or where I could look to figure it out. I am wanting to get
some tool steel to make Repousse punches and would like to be able to figure
out how the steel was made and what is in it. Hope this makes since I work
with gold and such don't no anything about steel.
Thanks
Billybob
