i agree with you concerning distributions.

i gave up on redhat.
currently i am using mandrake distributions on all my machines.
whenever debian 3.0 is released i will test it out.

at least with either mandrake or debian the distributions are
basically the same across different cpu arch.

i have 2 sun sparcs, 1 dec alpha, 2 apple imacs, 5 intel boxes,
1 hp pa-risc, 1 sgi mips box, and 2 m68k boxes. they all basically
are the same distribution of mandrake linux. this is not counting
the number of laptops and other computers dedicated to 'playing'
routers, printservers, mailservers, etc.
