I wonder if Mr. Gehery ever took a piece of titanium he had spec'd
out for a building skin, outside and left it sit to see if it reacted?
If he did, did he ever consider that the air pollution in the cities
he would place the Ti. buildings, might have corrosive properties to
TI? So many people are taught to ignore empirical evidence that it
never occurs to them that someone else made a mistake in the
engineering data they are using. We learned to "get a piece of that
stuff" and check it out hands on, before we planned a project in a
material we had only read about.
I would hope that's the case here, not just an assumption that Ti.
would always be ok anywhere... and that the Ti. spec'd was the Ti.
delivered. One would hope that an architect of that caliber had at
least done his "book work" on the material he was planning on using.
