This particular forge/furnace will have a forced air burner of the style 
favored by Hans Peot.

I used Mizzou (AP GREEN) high temperature castable/ramable 
refractory.  Follow the instructions and don't be tempted to add more water 
than the instructions call for, it'll turn soupy on you and take extra long 
time to set up and to cure.
