Just before Christmas I was in elf mode making lamps for the kids
for presents. (they are 22 and 24 so it is safe to do that!)
In the process of making these lamps, I was after a tree trunk
looking lamp with roots on the base. So this brings me to the topic of pipe
slitting. I found many ways of pipe slitting during this project and
wondered if anyone had any other ideas.
I started by slitting the pipe with a drop band saw/cut off style
saw.
That was slow so I went to plasma - but that was really heavy slag
clean up
So I tried Pam down the pipe and then plasma - that was better in
clean up
Then I went back to slitting with the saw and plasma cutting the
taper.
This worked well and finished the project
After the project was over I had someone mention using the
bridgeport and a slitting saw to cut the pipe, and I thought that was a
pretty good idea. I'm sure a cutting torch can be used but on 3/4 schd 80
the slag would be a bear. Anyone have any other wonderful ideas for pipe
sliting?
I did go ahead and slit the pipe with the Bridgeport, but found it a
tad slow. I thought of running a feed table into a stand up band saw I
have, but haven't done that yet.
