Respectfully: I'd suggest never welding on a good anvil!
I have made adaptors from welded pieces of angle iron so that I can go from 
anvil to anvil to platen table to treadle hammer with the same hardy hardy 
tools . The fit ups have slight tapers to hold tools firmly. The adaptors 
absorb a bit of energy but the versitility is worth it...Pete F
