>I've read a little about customs, and giving a knife can be an iffy thing.  Not only can a knife represent killing, it can represent cutting.  For the latter reason I believe it is considered inappropriate as a wedding present.  Different cultures react differently as well.  I have read that giving a knife to a Japanese is tantamount to telling him to commit suicide!  None of this is first-hand information.
