Thanks for all the suggestions.  Sounds  like the opening should go down
to the table and should be bigger. My hood is 36" tall 26" wide and 12"
deep the opening is 12" by 6".   Cutting the opening bigger is the
easiest thing to try, if this does'nt work I will try the smoke shelf.
I think I will also put a hinged door over top to help with the smoke
and also so I can close it when the forge is not running.  Tommorrow
night I wll have to test this out.
