Doug,
Try a product called "Kaizen Foam." It's available on Amazon. I buy it directly from a company called "FastCap." Amazon has the smaller quantities. It comes in 20, 30 and 57mm (7/8", 1-1/8 and 2-1/4"). It's wonderful stuff and easy to work.

Subject: [Test-Equipment] Ideas on replacing expired or melted foam padding
Here's a discussion I bet we all could use: has anyone had any success replacing the cellular foam
that is now melting away like the Wicked Witch of the East? It's really annoying to open up a carefully
stored item only to find a "clean up project".
Packing & shipping centers sell the same stuff as egg carton foam but it will decay in due time itself.
I've seen some Eimac tubes packed in a harder, more resilient cellular foam that does not seem to be affected. Not sure what the name of the stuff is but the tubes rest in a matching cutout shape. I know camera and lens sets are also packed in foam but I do not know if it lasts any longer. The last thing I would want on the adjusting backs of a camera lens is melted foam.
