Thanks for the response! 

~ The lack of electrolytic capacitors is no surprise.

~ You won't find them in a Hickok or a TV-* either, except to damp the panel
meter.

~ The Hickok design is a bridge circuit that uses ac throughout.

Well it sure was a surprise to me! I assumed that it had to have clean high
voltage DC to do an accurate test. Thanks very much for setting me straight
on this (:->)...

So, I'm safe to bring it up to 110-115 volts line current, check for smoke,
and put it into service?
