[Test-Equipment] Old Jackson tube tester

Hello All,

I've got a Jackson #648 tube tester that hasn't been used in years
(decades?). I figured that the first order of business was to replace the
electrolytics. Surprise, it doesn't have any! Neither in the unit, nor on
the schematic!

It does contain a 1S5 tube---pentode + diode---and there may be a choke in
the power supply. I didn't check for that, and the BAMA schematic is quite
low-resolution. In any case, the unit must be using B+ voltage with some
pretty heavy ripple. The Jackson has a good reputation, and is supposedly
just one cut below a Hickock---go figure!

I'm tempted to bring it up on a Variac and try using it, but remembering the
old adage "act in haste, repent at leisure", I thought that first I would
ask the experts for advice.

Thanks a bunch (:->).

Cheers,

Brian Burns   Ex: W5BRO, K6UCD
